9 Unique Tips to Grow Your Store’s Online Presence With Social Media

Let’s take a look at some ways to really stand out from everyone else who is struggling to grow an online presence with social media.

…Although I would recommend sticking to just two or three social networks (so you don’t stretch yourself too thin,) using an app like Snapchat puts you right in customer pockets and it separates you from other companies who saturate Facebook and Twitter.

Of the few small businesses that utilize Snapchat, many of them create scavenger hunts where an employee takes pictures of funny instances or locations, which eventually leads to a message about a discount or maybe a new product.

…A few points to take away are that you can’t encourage people to share the post on their own personal timelines (although posting a comment on your particular business/contest post is acceptable) and you must disclose all official rules for the contest.

…You can even bring your own company into it by asking workers to state their favorite products or why they started working at XYZ Company.

…Above you can see that Justin Bieber received plenty of retweets because of his 1800flowers tweet (a tweet he was paid for,) but other celebrities have received backlash for these types of ads.

…Cats are cute, we get it, but how in the world are you going to incorporate a cute cat or dog picture into your social strategy?

…Put some of your apparel on one of the pets or show a dog tearing into one of your packages (Even Sparky can’t wait to get his paws on “insert product here”).

…The cycling thread on Reddit is fairly large, so I’m sure you would get some people interested in learning about some new bike repair tips or what new technology you’re selling.

…Redditors are often ruthless if you don’t answer every question, so take a look at some of the AMAs that went horribly wrong to prepare yourself.

WHETHER or not eyes are windows to the soul, they can provide a view of a person’s health. Eye problems are not the only things to show up; recent studies indicate that eyes can also reveal the presence of broader disorders like heart disease, stroke threats, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis.

…Retinal imaging is best left to professionals, not least because a doctor needs to get a patient’s eye in precisely the right position to see all the blood vessels inside. Even so, Tristan Swedish of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, a place where diverse disciplines often collide in remarkable ways, speculated that it might be possible to create a device that would allow patients to take snapshots of their own retinas.

…Working on the principle of “if you can see me, I can see you”, Mr Swedish describes his idea in an upcoming issue of the Association of Computing Machinery Transactions on Graphics. He generates a red light that shines through tiny holes to make it look as if there are four red lights in a diamond formation in his device. Patients initially see the lights as rather dim dots but, as they move their eyes around, they quickly notice that the dots become brighter when they look in a specific direction.

…The task is not easy, but with around ten minutes of practice most people are able to push a button at just the moment they see all nine lights and capture an image that can be analysed.

…Mr Swedish says his colleagues at the Media Lab are already developing software capable of analysing colouration, blood-vessel shapes and other traits found in the retina that can help determine the health of patients, and plot that information over time. Such a system might make it possible for people to monitor themselves and, if there are any warning signs, to be advised to see a doctor for a closer look.

The Myth of "Female Viagra"

The libido-enhancing drug approved by an FDA advisory panel acts slowly on the brain to increase desire—not quickly on the mechanics of the sexual act

…Viagra does not affect the desire for sex in men, it just helps with the hydraulics. … Food and Drug Administration advisory panel this week will not live up to the “female Viagra” hype it’s been getting. The new drug, Flibanserin, is designed to alter women’s brain chemistry over time to help increase sex drive.

…Exactly how many women experience it has been hard to pin down—one study suggests as many as one in three women, although the pharmaceutical company producing the drug told the FDA advisory panel that about 7 percent of premenopausal women have the condition, according to The New York Times. Women with the condition may still enjoy sex when they are having it but typically do not have the desire to engage in sex in the first place.

Whereas Viagra is a little blue pill men would take directly before sex to help direct that blood flow, Flibanserin needs to be taken daily.

…Other drugs on the market target some aspects of sex for women, such as helping treat vaginal dryness, but none have been approved for treating low female sexual arousal. … Several other antidepressants are currently prescribed off-label to treat sexual desire disorders but some of those drugs have can cause unwanted side effects such as irregular heartbeat or shortness of breath.

…The FDA advisory panel that voted on June 4 to recommend approval of the drug did not discount those risks.
