ITIL® and CMM
ITIL® and CMM are two separate frameworks functioning in the IT industry. Both of them are equally relevant and it has been determined that a blend of both the frameworks give profitable results to the organization.
CMM is a framework created to guide the software developers in particular through the task of creating IT base solutions that are directed according to your business requirements. ITIL® framework is confined to Service Management in IT industry. ITIL® and CMM frameworks are complementary to each other and there will not be any clash or duplication if both of them are implemented.
The CMM measurement model is a 5 category measurement model and ITIL® is also a 5 level model (after details there are actually 9 levels in ITIL®). The similar structure sometimes creates complexities in the mapping exercise.
