Is ITIL 2011 training more difficult than previous editions?

Thousands of IT workers worldwide have discovered ITIL, and are hooked on it.  Armed with an understanding of ITIL, IT professionals can finally more fully participate in the business process.  But mere participation in the affairs of business leaders isn’t the only draw for IT personnel; ITIL also expands one’s career opportunities and/or further solidifies your current career.  Likewise, an individual that’s more familiar with or perhaps, certified in ITIL will not only be among the first offered up for promotion, but also given more important responsibilities.  In short, ITIL is for those professionals who are ready to accomplish, excel, excite, lead, and win.
Though ITIL is merely a compendium of methodologies, it carries with it a great authority; this can be largely attributed to its inherent design.   You see, ITIL is based on the principle of continuous reintegration.  So what’s continuous reintegration?  To put it simply, a process of continuous reintegration simply means to imply that any new ideas, processes, practices or methods which are found useful are queued up to be included.  Likewise, ITIL isn’t solely dependent on the thoughts, attitudes, or discoveries of a select group, either.  Any private, public or academic institution which utilizes and/or performs IT research can submit information for review and inclusion into the ITIL; the only prerequisite is that the information submitted be valid and useful in some regard.

In other words, as technology and ideas change, ITIL shifts to not only include these concepts, but also retain everything else of use which has come before. Basically, if information or practices work, they are included in ITIL, for as long as they continue to be valid.  This is a very important system, and one in which the entire global IT community has come to depend on; ITIL is akin to a backbone of understanding when it comes to technology and IT.

If you just so happen to be one of the many individuals who studied and/or attained certification in ITIL V3, you’re probably wondering about what changes have been made in the 2011 version (of ITIL).  You shouldn’t be too worried or concerned, ITIL 2011 is essentially the same as ITIL V3; this is not to say that certain alterations or additions haven’t been made though.

What changes have transpired between V3 and 2011, you ask?  The most notable changes featured in ITIL 2011 are simply alterations that were made to certain terminologies.  In fact, one of the principle driving forces behind ITIL 2011 was the desire to create a more fully agreeable and comprehensive (across all sections) set of definitions for ITIL terminology.  Many individuals complained that V3, while still excellent, seemed to utilize multiple definitions for the same concepts / terms.  Given that ITIL is supposed to be a comprehensive guide, any misunderstandings about terminology would need to be addressed as soon as possible.  Now, when you pick up ITIL 2011, you shouldn’t experience any disconnect with regards to specific terms across multiple sections / volumes.  Additionally, a concerted effort was also put forth to better organize the ITIL.   So, certain adaptations were made in order to create a more organized version of ITIL, the 2011 edition is a reflection of that.

The real question is (once again) is ITIL 2011 training more (or less) difficult than previous editions?  The answer of course is, not at all.  In many ways a lot of the older information which has long been a part of ITIL has been improved in the 2011 edition.  This is due to (as previously mentioned) the insistence of certain individuals that a more suitable set of definitions for IT and ITIL –centric terms be established (and applied en masse across the entire methodology).  It’s not that anything has been simplified; rather that clarification has taken over ITIL.
