APQP 1 big thing: Coordinate and oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of Quality Management.

The big picture: Check that your process reviews manufacturing processes, determining where improvements could be implemented in terms of product quality to contribute towards the success of your organization.

Why it matters: Make sure the Quality Engineer is responsible for APQP deliverables, monitoring and reporting of quality performance, participation in corrective actions relative to quality concerns, and maintenance of (internal) customer relationships relative to plant quality performance.

Be smart: Ensure you test and inspect products against performance and integrity criteria to ensure product quality and reliability, and to determine the suitability of product release.

What to watch: Review and interpret customer, regulatory, and internal requirements into program and product specific quality planning and procedures for use in design, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, test, inspection, and (internal) customer delivery.

State of play: Guarantee your staff is responsible for determining that all requirements are met by the supplier for your most challenging new or changed products and the execution of the Production Part Approval Processes and the Advanced Product Quality Planning processes, including elements of Early Supplier Engagement and Zero Defects Mentality, for related Value Package Change Request and medium to high risk Value Package Introduction projects.

On the flip side: Support preparation, distribution, and communicates periodic Supplier performance status and risk assessments to regional leadership with priority until selected supplier reaches stability and can be handed off to Supplier Sustainability team.

Meanwhile: Confirm that your group creates maps and information products, updates and maintains existing map collections and applies advanced cartographic techniques for map production.

Between the lines: Invest in the development of new and update of current training courses and support the manufacturing engineering and design engineering functions in the development of General PPAP Overview training, DFMEA and PFMEA training.

Under the hood: Establish that your process directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
